Batman: Arkham Asylum
I was interested in this for a while. Yesterday Steam had a sale on it, so I took my chance.
I was also pleasantly suprised that the PC version works under GFWL, meaning this is the third game after Fallout 3 and Dawn of War II I can unlock achievements for in GFWL.

Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum
[I liked this game a lot. First Batman game I've liked since Batman Returns for the SNES. I was very impressed with the 'beat em up' battle system implemented, which when mastered, allowed for hard mode to be possible. I also liked that they didn't skimp on the Joker, showing him in his manical, very demented and dark persona. They didn't seem to hold back at all for the content, which is admirable, since this is the first time they decided to stop worrying about ratings and focused on making a good game]
[For fans of the Batman cartoon, there is a lot of bonuses here, as this game continues the storyline of the entire Batman series, and implements elements of the story from the Batman Beyond movie. Don't ask me how I know this, since I really am not a Batman fan >_<. Anyway, from the story, down to the very cool taping sessions of inmates at the very gothic Arklam Asylum, this game is pretty sweet. 8/10] -[AT9]

Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum
I finished it today and I must say it is one of the best Action-Adventures I have ever played, right up there with Soul Reaver. A great mix of combat, stealth, riddles and platforming and the story is also well told, although the ending is felt anticlimatic for me.
Great visuals too, the Freeflow-combat system, especially once you have some upgrades and got the hang of it, looks simply stunning.
The subject matter is treated with a noticeable amount of love and dedication, but that does not mean it is just something for Batman or comic book fans.
Special mention to the Scarecrow scenes which were especially well done.
Really the only things that bothers me is that the game is a tad too short and the ending comes somewhat too sudden and is anticlimaticly short. However, the game time can be stretched quite a bit for people who want to complete all of Riddler's Missions or want to fight for the highest scores in Challenge Mode.
Edit: Mentioning Soul Reaver makes me want to play it now, a shame it does not run anymore under modern hardware...

Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum
I have Soul Reaver for the PSone.
Anywho, when the game "froze" was the best part IMO.

*Spoiler* Since the B-Man coughed before that scene I expected that it was time for some Scarecrow action, but this effect made me remember good ol' Eternal Darkness.

yeah this was a good game. loved how they used seveal voice actors from the animated series in the 90s lol mark hamill is the best joker voice actor. Also loved how they put music clips from Dark Knight in there. Great fight scenes and Scarecrow is just creative, especially with the frozen screen part lol

And unsurprisingly it will get a sequel:

I really hope it will not just be a glorified expansion, but a real new game, with new features and innovations.

- Spoiler:
- After taking a look at the official website (not much to see there yet) I would guess that Two-Face and Joker work together to do some shit and seeing how badly mangled the Joker is it can not be long after part 1
Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum
*is shocked*
Edit: I am also wondering how they will handle the titan in AA2, being there is 3 different people that could grab it (Bane, Croc, Scarecrow) at the end of the game, though I am not sure of the ways to get said person to grab it over the others (scarecrow got it in my ending). So it might just be a case of its not in there or we will find which ending is cannon.

Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum
[I think that is the point of the game, to make it reflect the look and feel of the Dark Knight movie. The dark, gothic interface is clearly born from that movie. Furthermore, the Joker is definitely modeled after Ledger's portrayal, which I am very fond of. By the way, I am very excited to see a sequel in the works. This made my morning. Thanks for the news Saibot, plus clout]

I hope they find a way to implement the Riddler again
But I would love to hear him again.
Hearing him slowly lose his composure and eventually accuse me of cheating was incredibly funny and satisfying.
- Spoiler:
- seeing that the canon ending probably involves him getting caught in B:AA
- Spoiler:
- make someone free him first

Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum
That sounds awesome it also looks like they might have penguin in there too. There was a shot of his lodge in the commerical and it also looks like it might be in Gotham in it too if the commerical is to be believed

Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum
The Penguin actually does not appear as a real entity in B:AA. Two of the Riddler Quests are about him, though.
Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum
His (Penguin) picture is on a few posters in offices in B:AA.

Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum
BTW, anyone else found the riddles cleverly done, but all in all missing a few real tough nuts? I mean often just watching out for strange and unusual things in the surroundings was enough to solve them.
Edit: Finding out who the Spirit of Arkham is was rather well done, though.

Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum
I didn't do the riddles unless I sovled one on accident (happened a few times), cause I don't have a HDTV and I also can't read tiny as fuck letters. This is a design flaw that is seems game makers can't be bothered to fix.
