Re: Grand Theft Auto III
Finally purchased it at good old Gamestop. Now I just need San Andreas to complete the Trilogy. Playing it through a second time now, and any gamer knows: There are two ways a video game is played: The 1st & the 2nd time. The first time you are impressed by everything, explore, make a lot of stupid mistakes, die approx. 1000 times etc.
The second time is the one, where you're able to enjoy it more, coz' you know what happens. You notice details, get your missions through much cleverer, explore even more, take revenge on those who bugged you the first time, like "Oh really? Well, I know what you're up to, mofo! Take this video game character!" etc. So a Video Game is much like a movie or a song: The more you play/watch/listen to it, the better it gets. Well, sometimes you begin to hate it like "Man, I watched this movie so many times, and now I realized I actually hate it." But that's the thing: That anyone has his own view on things. Sorry, I'm talkin' too much again, here's the picture.
Eric is standing next to the game on request, coz' he likes it a lot too. "Respect my authorita!" he said.

[Also, you can never talk to much, especially about a game. This is a game site amigo! We want ya to talk aboot games ^_^]
[Perhaps that isn't a lot then? Just seems like it to me I guess]

You're nuts!? It's 7,99€! Look closer.[Alexander_The_Nine] wrote:[You paid 68 Euro for a used game? ]
Seems the € looks like a 6.
I would NEVER pay that much.

Re: Grand Theft Auto III
I played it through a second time, and after thinking about it, I can now agree with Moses:
It is the best GTA. It really is. Still, I like all three of the PS2 Trilogy. They all got their own feel and flavour.
That's what I respect the most about GTA: Even though it's always another time (80's, 90's, 2000's), another setting (Liberty City, Vice City, San Andreas), another main character (the Talkless, Tommy V., CJ Johnson), another story (well, it's the world of crime) and graphics, controls etc. improve, it's always GTA.
It's the development of sometimes minor characters like e.g. Lazlow, Fernando Martinez and how they change.
Characters getting older and being alive in one game and being dead in another (like Don Salvatore in SA, you kill him in III, about ten years later in time as Claude, or Ken Rosenberg, knowing him as his star was rising in the 80's and seeing him in the 90's, just a human wreck), the connection of different people in different times and their very own destiny.
Radio Stations, the cherry on the cream on the pie, that not only create a perfect mood for each game, but also play A LOT of good music (probably the best collection of various good music in a game series ever) & funny commercials.
Fictive Companies.
Cars.
Missions, some unforgettable.
References to previous games to discover and smile about.
You could write a book about what makes GTA so great, and you still couldn't answer the question completely.
Maybe it's that GTA never tries to be more than GTA. It never tries to be a blockbuster game with 1000 unrelated meaningless features. Instead, it focuses on developing the own universe and keeping true to itself. That's what makes it a game of grand (facepalm) qualities;
and with heart.
A game about violence, criminals, stealing and relentless killing is an example for a true game.
Wow. I bet Atari 2600 didn't see that coming. :-P
A Game Series that deserves the title
One of the best Game Series ever

I am not a fan of 2, alot about it "rubbed me the wrong way" it being T was one of them. But I love 1.

Re: Grand Theft Auto III
I think it is quite funny it was rated "T". I actually like the Respect-System even if you have to perform alot of willing suspension of disbelief. But killing the bosses of the gangs after you did all the missions on a map was awesome.
