Re: I approve
I play games for story. I have played some VERY "unfun" games for the good story alone.

Re: I approve
I thoroughly enjoyed that!
I agree with moses. I play games for the story. Though some games, like devil may cry and metroid prime and such I play for the game play.

[I agree with all of you. The only reason I got as far as I did in Final Fantasy 12 was due to the storyline. I hated nearly every other aspect of the game, but kept playing for the story and character interaction. The story of a game is what draws me to RPGs the most, besides the strategy. A game without good plot is just...sadening]

yeah, yeah, yeah...
Everybody plays video games just for the story.
"I can kill and blow up things in that game, shoot zombies right in the head or the balls,
but hey, I don't care for that, I care for the story!"
Dear Caffeineheads:
Please admit that you play for the story
AND for the killings, explosions, filthy words, blood, good looking anime girls etc.
anyway, here's a true motivator

Re: I approve
I don't watch anime.
And though you might not believe me, I play games for story. Even games with no "killings, explosions, filthy words, blood, good looking anime girls etc."
I have never picked up a game thinking "how many people can I kill in this".

Re: I approve
[The storyline is one of my BIG reasons for playing RPGs. If RPGs didn't have awesome, long stories, I wouldn't like them NEARLY as much]

i play games for the fun or the game play. I find that if the story isnt good at all that i ussually end up ditching the game mid way through though. I dont play many RPGs. EXCEPT SENGOKU RANCE!!! That game is awsome combining great story with good game play and everything else you could want from a crazy Japaneese game!

HAHAHA. Alex, you have to understand that I like them, Its just that they need to be fun too to keep my attention. If not i start to doze off in the middle of a fight (which shouldnt happen)

[Now that I have played persona 4, I can tell you that the fighting in Dragonquest 8 is similar in some ways. Persona 4 has a battle system which I like to call 'low scale', meaning the numbers for health, stats and everything else are much lower than most RPGs. As a result, you have you heal your guys a lot, and one or two levels can mean the difference between loosing a battle and winning it. Because of this fact, I think you will like DQ8. It isn't as dark as Persona, but then again, what RPG can match ANY SMT game in that area? None that I know of. Cool storyline though. Also, just like P4, your boss battles can be a bit lengthy, mainly cause you are calculating your every move. OH! YOU CAN ASSIGN ALL THE CHARACTERS TO BE CONTROLLED BY AI, AND SET STRATEGIES ACCORDINGLY, just like P4. I do not think you can do this for your main hero though. All in all, I hope you give the game a try, and hope even more that you like it. It would be nice, after you turning me onto some really great RPGs, that I would end up doing the same at least once]
