Geohashing

So XKCD has this thing called Geohashing. It's a joke, but it's got it's own cult following. Basically you just take the date as a math equation (YYYY-MM-DD) and then you subtract that day's opening Dow Jones quote, then you push it through an equation... You know what? here's a picture. In fact, THE picture.


The text you see when you hover over the original image is "Saturday is game night."

Generally speaking, XKCD admins are in their local coordinates every Saturday starting at around four. Since the equation uses your local lines of latitude and longitude, it sorta ensures that you will be within 100 miles of your determined value, and therefore you can actually go there.

The reason I post this is... Well, I was looking at today's Geohashed coordinates came out south of me between three interesting towns I had never heard of. Surprise, Gayhead, and Climax, NY. Proof:

The point is, I didn't know those three towns existed, or that it's even legal to name a town Gayhead. That's just setting up for lulz if you live there.

Some people like Gayhead.

You've never heard of the town names in Newfoundland, Come by Chance and Dildo both come to mind. I shit you not, I've been there.

Both sound like great towns.

There are German towns with names that translate to: "Dumbstown" or "Cat Piss".

I used to drive through Hell, Michigan all the time. Its actually a nice little place, though winter kinda freezes over the town every year.

I dont have any cool town names to add here but im just saying that when it comes to the summer i am sure as hell going to do this every week!! I hope TDSA and Shamless join!
