New Mortal Kombat Movie

Most of the time video game movies are often accused of being too far away from the souce material and feel. Well, most likely another one will be added to this tally. Today, a teaser trailer (quite long though) for a new Mortal Kombat movie was released. This movie appears to have no connection to the past two films and indeed the connection with the games seems to be somewhat thin as well.

Well, I do not know how you feel about it, but while this movie seems to be quite a bit apart from what little plot Mortal Kombat had, it actually seems to be the better for it, from this teaser at least. This is probably the first time a video game movie could profit from distance to the source material. Of course, this begs the question why they had to make it a "Mortal Kombat"- movie in the first place...

Today, a new Mortal Kombat game was announced, simply titled Mortal Kombat.

Could it be that movie and game are related and this new MK will in-fact be a franchise reboot?

[That seems pretty likely, considering a lot of series' franchises have been cashing in on remaking a series]

Well since the trailer's poster screen name is "Mortal Kombat Rebirth". I would assume so. I am more interested to see what company releases the game since Midway went belly up last year.

Yep, filed bankruptcy and went through liquidation. Sold off studios, ya-da ya-da. And it seems Mortal Kombat (9) will be released by its new main shareholder....WB interactive.

Anyway, the trailer for the game is released and it seems there is no connection between the teaser and this game since it all looks like it always did.
