[My Top 10 Favorite Consoles]
[It has been a CRAZY twenty years of gaming, ladies and gents. I am here to share my top ten favorite consoles, since I am in quite the reminiscent mood. Come on the journey with me!]
NUMBER TEN
NUMBER NINE
NUMBER SIX
[The other five will come soon]
NUMBER TEN
- Spoiler:
NINTENDO ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM [NES]
Let's face it, while it had some great games, the NES had some major things working against it. First, it was the start of the 'blow on it and pray it works' era, an era I'm sure we wish never existed, regardless of its somewhat weird charm. Also, sneezing next to this system was apt to freeze your game. Games were short, graphics, while not very important, were extremely low, and low budget games were often hard to understand visually. All in all, this game system gets number ten on my list. It had some good games, but...well...It still sorta sucked.
NUMBER NINE
- Spoiler:
NINTENDO WII
I can already hear some Nintendo Nerds screaming at me for making this number nine. Relax, you can make your own top ten, with the ever-so-lame Wii at number 1 if you so wish. Now! The Wii has a few GREAT games. Marvelous. And its ability to fully play any old game is quite nice....when the Nintendo network actually decides to work that is. Shitty controller that chews through batteries like Scarabs chew through live flesh, horrible lighting, lame power settings [how hard is it to shut my console OFF? Sleep mode? Seriously? Nobody needs a fucking sleep mode on their console] and SD formatting are among the many reasons the Wii make number 9 on my list. Suck it Wii. Suck it hard.
- Spoiler:
- SEGA GENESIS
Holy shit. The memories my fellow gamers! The great games! I could go on and on about how much the Genesis rocked back in the day, but I'll just say it had great games, much more reliable cartridges than the NES and leave it at that.
- Spoiler:
SUPER NINTENDO ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM [SNES]
Okay. This system just fucking rocked. I remember it taking a full can of Pepsi like a fucking CHAMP! Great games, reliable cartridges that were locked into place to prevent movement, a tank of a console in terms of durability...did I mention great games? Great games! Did I mention it has great games? Huh? I already asked that.....
NUMBER SIX
- Spoiler:
NINTENDO 64
This one deserves being on my list. Even though it rejected optical media, it made history with its revolutionary graphics, 3D movement, advanced controller and 4-player gaming capabilities. Holy snap I love this system, even today. I still remember when it came out. I was at a Toys R Us and they had it on display with Super Mario 64. I couldn't believe my eyes as I played the demo, looking at Princess Peach's castle, trying desperately to walk across the bridge, clumsily stumbling everywhere, still adjusting to the 3D Analog Stick. A while back, I booted that game up, and it still looked really great for a 64 game. Nintendo showed that they weren't going anywhere with that system, and they continue to revolutionize gaming, though sometimes not in a good way. Go N64!

I actually agree. If I'm to be honest, Wii is a horrible console, except for a few AWESOME games.

NUMBER FIVE
- Spoiler:
SONY PLAYSTATION
All consoles from here on are just awesome. The PlayStation is where a lot of hours playing FF games went. Great system. The original wasn't too great, but still managed to have some kickass games like FF7 and SOTN to show that you don't have to have 3D movement and analog sticks to make a great game. The 3D capable PSone took everything to another level. FF8. FF9. Spyro 2 and 3. Star Ocean 2. And since they always cram tech in their systems, the graphical capabilities for the cutscenes were astronomically high for the time period. FF9 is the best representation of what the PlayStation could do. DualShock controllers! Oh how the PSone sold. You're my buddy PSone, you always will be. You deserve this spot.
NUMBER FOUR
- Spoiler:
XBOX 360
This really was a great system, despite all of its glitches. Microsoft had a few things going for it that made it outsell the PS3 for years. The first HUGE advantage was that Microsoft understood that not everyone could afford the full price of 500. So they made two less expensive models, using cheaper parts and catered them to the occasional player, and the mild gamer. By doing this, they sold many, many units. Even a hardcore gamer that DID want the best model could buy a cheap one to hold him off for a while. The 360 could also play music while you played your games, and play at native resolution for the display you were using, two things the PS3 STILL does not have. But it wasn't perfect. No no no. Lots of bugs. The cheaper models were loud and very laggy. But It was a smart business decision that made them a lot of money, and cost Sony a lot. It still has a lot of great games, but most of them are also for the PS3 now. Still, I plan on having one again someday. Was a good system with a great controller.
- Spoiler:
PLAYSTATION 3
This thing had some serious issues in the beginning, mainly due to idiots running Sony. Nobody has forgotten the "work more hours!" slogan. Rich people. They love to try and explain away high price tags. Third party developers took notice. The PS3 started getting abandoned by developers left and right. Finally, the PS3 made the slim, and the price was cut in half. Bravo! How much money did you lose Sony? Remember that next time you want to unveil something with an enormous pricetag, with no lower models. Anyway! The PS3 is a great system, all in all. Pretty much like the 360, only quieter, a lot less buggy, and almost the same game library. The 360 has a few dozen games to itself, and so does the PS3. It is pretty much preference from here, whether you like the 360 or PS3 more, both are great systems.
NUMBER TWO
- Spoiler:
- NINTENDO GAMECUBE
This really was a GREAT system. A lot of people hated it. Some people saw the disc size and assumed it wasn't very graphical. Some gauged it on console appearance. Others complained about the controller (which i thought was pretty damn comfortable) and still more just heard that it was popular to hate the Cube and jumped on the bandwagon. The people that did the latter are posers. I will never appologise for that comment. If you heard the Cube sucked, and without trying it for yourself, starting going around telling everyone that it sucked, you are a POSER. If you gauge game graphics from discsize, without ever watching the actual graphics, you are an IDIOT. Now, if you just do not like the Cube, there is nothing wrong with that. We all have our differences, right? I just wanted to take yet another moment to make fun of people that hate something without ever trying it. Like the fat kid on my bus who was playing a GameBoy Advance, saying that 'I was going to get a Cube, but well, this has the same Graphics as the cube, so I got this." Anyway, the Cube had the fastest loading speeds, great memory cards that held a lot of information, and a slew of GREAT games working for it. There is only one that can beat it....
NUMBER ONE!
- Spoiler:
- PLAYSTATION 2 BITCHES!
If there was a log of how many hours I have spent on each system, the PS2 would not only win, but most people would bitch at me after hearing the alarming number of game hours. This is the system that literally ATE my teenage years. Budokai 3. Final Fantasy 7-10. For fuck sake! It still eats my time! DDS, P3, P4, AT1 AT2, D1, D2, IT HAS BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY WITH THE PSONE! I would go on with games that ate my time, but that list is waaaaaay too long. You can use PlayStation controllers, memory cards and video games in it just fine. Dual Shock 2 baby! Was also super easy to crack and hack. 10 years later and this fucker still sells like hotcakes, and there is a reason for that. ALSO! This thing served as my first DVD player <3 If I were to guess how much time I have spent on it alltogether.......whew. ....20,000 hours. I'm being a little reserved, I think it is more. If you think I am lying I cannot help that. I have had the same PS2 for nearly six years. It has never died. It fell from high places while running, the cords have been yanked out in mid-play, the lid slammed angrily. It has been poked, prodded and even melted in certain areas [modding stuff]. This thing is not only a champion, it is my champion. I will always treasure my PS2. I will not get a new one, if I have my way. I will just keep buying replacement parts if they go out. It must retain all my hours. A piece of my soul might be in it. How many consoles can you say that for? I would love to hear your stories of your favorite console. We're all gamers here!
Anyway, that's all she wrote ladies and gents! Have fun, and remember to game. -[Astro9]

[Nah. I like the PS2 the most, hands down. The Cube had some great games, put the PS2 has more great games, a lot of which are even greater, and it has DVD support, music CD support, USB ports, can be hacked easier, can be made to load and play video and music FILES, the list goes on and on. Oh, and I can play SNES games on it. So yeah. It wins. Over and over again]
