Ratchet & Clank
Ratchet and Clank: The beginning
System: PS2
Story: Ratchet is a lombax from outer space. Clank is a
robot created from a lack of parts from an evil robot creator. They soon find
that Ratchets home planet is being prepared for destruction by ‘Supreme
Commander Chairmen Drek’, who wants to create a new world for his people by
taking pieces from other planets and wants the orbit that Ratchets planet is
on. This unlikely duo is joined together for an epic adventure across the
galaxy. You will go on a quest to find an idiotic, goofball of a hero, Captain
Quark. You quickly find that you are the
world’s last hope. You will go against hoards of minions and even compete in
hover board races.
Game Play: This is a third person shooter/platformer/RPG. A
great combination of genres. The platforming is top notch, with accurate
controls. The shooter is intuitive with a slight auto aim used to help you. The
RPG aspect is not very developed past the guns. You can get more guns as you
progress through the game. Once you have completed the game you can use gold
bolts that you collect through the planets to turn any gun you have gold, and
bring the power level up just a bit. Once you complete the game you can start
over just before you defeat the boss or you can start the game over entirely
with a bit harder difficulty and every gun that you have obtained. P.S. save
your bolts and buy the R.Y.N.O.
Ascetics: The sounds are great. The grunts of the enemies
are repetitive but it makes it so you know what enemy is coming. The guns all
make their own individual sounds and effect. The music played in each planet is
different and very good. From the lows to the high the music is itself a great
reason to play. The voice acting is great as well. Not once is there a slip up
or a point of ill acting. The voices fit the characters so well. The graphics
are very good for the PS2. The worlds flourish in spectacular color, and the
sheer size of the stages seem huge, even if the story and quests are very
linear.
9.3/10
Very good, if not great. The difficulty level is a little too easy and there is no way to change it besides beating the game over and over.
