Sex in Games Empty Sex in Games

Post by Saibot01 Sat Mar 06, 2010 8:32 am

Anyone with two eyes and at least a little interest in the industry must notice that the games with "Optional Sexual Encounters" is steadily on the rise, especially in the sector of RPGs, but not restricted to them.

So what do you think of this development?
Just a cheap way attracting adolescent boys?
Is it handled well?
Does it make you laugh more than aroused?

Edit: Of course we are not talking about actual porn games, but games with a completetly different focus including sex scenes.

Sex in Games Empty Re: Sex in Games

Post by [Mr_Self_Destruct] Sat Mar 06, 2010 8:54 am

[I think that it is a way to make our games more adult oriented, something that games weren't able to do for a long time. When Mortal Kombat came out, a game created solely by four individuals, it was violently attacked as a game that was 'destroying the youth' and that was just violence. Then the second one came out, and everyone forgot about the first one, because the second was more realistic, and had more blood. That was many years ago, and we still have battles on this front. Sexuality, in America for one, is HEAVILY rejected in media. It is thought of as 'unnatural' yet it is depicting human nature itself. Parents don't want their children to know about sex, or see things depicting such, and that's against the grain of what we as human beings are designed to do]

[So, I wasn't completely surprised with Hilary Clinton, that evil witch, decided she would take it upon herself to attack GTA San Andreas for its' 'Coffee Mod' feature, a feature that wasn't even put in the game. It was a sex scene where one could engage a female character in sexual acts. Prior to release, it was removed from the game, but never removed from the disc contents, so one could 'mod' or 'hack' the game, unlocking the content. Hilary, having never found someone that would be willing to put his penis into her body, was outraged. How dare someone depict sexual acts on a VIDEO GAME no less! She didn't like video games, and she didn't like sex, so HOW DARE they do that! She went into immediate action, and with lots and lots of dirty words directed at Rock Star, she took them to court and, no surprise here-won. Lots of money and power are certainly to blame]

[The suit was simple; Rock Star had to put the dreaded 'AO' rating on their game, meaning Adults Only. The problem with this in America is that most stores will not carry AO titles. You need a license to carry the damn things, and when they DO have them, you don't even have any idea. You have to ask the store person at the counter for the game. So basically, if you have an AO game, you will not be able to sell many copies. So now, thanks to Hilary, the world is saved! GTA San Andreas has a MA rating now. All the cussing, or most of it, was censored out, many scenes removed, and of course the coffee mod cheat doesn't work]

[Maybe I'm overexaggerating, you might think. If you do...look for the coffee mod cheat. Go to Gamesharks' official page. "Gameshark does not condone or support the coffee mod cheat, and will not host it on our site." These words, or similar, can be found on Gameshark when seeking out the code. So....let me get this straight, even if we bought the AO version, aka the older MA version, we aren't even allowed to do the cheat? This is a perfect example of American, and certain other countries outlook on sexual material in entertainment. But what's the best part about all this? GTA IV is out now, and you can have lap dances by hookers, amung a SLEW of other erotic adventures, all in high def. The rating for this game? MA. Now that's irony]

[I think that, as time goes on, we are moving past these people that hate the idea of sex. We are slowly getting to a point where the game developers have more freedom with what they put in their games. That is why they put sexual content in their games; because they can. Not to mention, a MA rated game is just that; a game intended for 17+ individuals. So why not cater further to that? I do not think they are trying to get adolescent boys to buy the games. Why don't I think that? Because they are MA rated games. You must provide ID to buy them. So at the end of the day, is it the game developer's fault that your child has this game, or is it yours? People are lazy during these times we are in; they want the schools and the legal system to watch their kids while they go out and do the exact same shit seen on the games. Your parents have sex. They do drugs. They drink. They smoke. If you don't like it, then stay ignorant, away from the rest of us]

[In my closing argument, do I think its' well done? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Sometimes a game just throws the content in there for no reason, when it doesn't really fit the game. Like God of War. The dude is going around slashing people up. Blood. Gore. Organs. Bodily fluids. So....how does a random room in each game filled with naked chicks that you can sex go with that theme at all?]

[Does it make me laugh? Not really. Hell, sometimes the content on a game can be downright erotic. As an adult, I tend to appreciate it when game developers aren't holding back. If you want to put something in the game, do it, by all means]

[These are my current thoughts on this issue. For now, that is all from me on this]

I feel that games are a place where sex (along with ANYTHING else) can be used. If someone wants to make a more adult game (not sex game) and puts in a sex scene like in Mass Effect that that is fine! But dont make it like they did in the 'hot coffee' mod in GTA thats just too much....

[Who are you to say what a game creator/artist can and cannot do? Who is anyone to say that? I'm not trying to sound aggressive, but that is my stance nonetheless. As creators, they decide what to put into their project. We as consumers can show our dislike by not buying the goods when they are made. What you think of the coffee mod is entirely different from what the guy standing next to you thinks, and the guy next to him thinks something else as well. Opinions are an ever-changing, ever-present entity that we must deal with. For instance, if a band changes their sound, and some fans are outraged, should they change it back? Well, let's examine it. How many of their fans are outraged? Not even close to 100 percent. No matter how much you might hate a new album, there's THOUSANDS of muthafuckaz that love that album for the same reasons you hate it. This applies to anything. Art, movies, music, video games, etc. Therefore it is best for the artists, the creators, to go with what they feel, and the rest is up to the consumers]

[I think I've spoken enough on this post. That is all for now]

I can't help you there. What I can say is this: Newgrounds rules should apply to the entire videogame industry, not just flash animation: Everything, by everyone. If you want to have a crazy VN about taking over Japan and banging all the chicks in it (Just a random example), you should be allowed to do so.

You've missed the point: Anyone can create anything. Rest assured, I don't care what you think about Newgrounds, I just want to make the point that if you want to make a piece of crap, you ought to be allowed to do so.

Moses, you remind me that the internet is full of people who are on the internet. It sounds logical, but sometimes that little factoid escapes me.
